Training internationalization
The international opening of the marine and coastal sciences training programme is now a priority for IUEM. In this context, the Institute supports its students mobility, PhD students, administrative staff and teacher-researchers, and participates in various international training programmes within the European and international framework.

IMBRSea
The International Master in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea) is a joint Master’s programme organised by nine leading European universities in the field of marine sciences. Based on the EMBRC consortium objectives, IMBRSea covers a range of topics related to marine living resources sustainable use. With a focus on marine biological and ecological processes, the programme links marine organisms biology to environmental studies and marine policy and planning topics.

ScolaMAR
The ScolaMAR–Innovative training for Smart coastal management and Sustainable blue growth project, is an Erasmus + capacity building project. ScolaMAR aims at strengthening Morocco’s capabilities to face societal challenges related to coastal zone management. In order to train future trainers and executives in marine sciences, law and economics, ScolaMAR supports the creation of an innovative and transversal Moroccan Master’s programme in Marine Sciences.

JOINT THESIS (PhD)
You can carry out a research stay in a laboratory or in the field as part of your international mobility, or participate in a thesis co-supervision program with a partner university or institute of your choice, and through joint programmes.

Go abroad
WHERE AND HOW TO GO?
Students: It is possible for you to go abroad as part of a paid internship, or to carry out a study mobility for one or two semesters with IUEM partner universities or in Quebec through the BCI program. Biology
The Master’s degree is made in co-accreditation between the UBO and l’Institut Agro Rennes-Angers (Rennes site). The BEE mention is attached to IUEM – Université de Bretagne Occidentale and mainly to the Laboratory of Marine Environmental Sciences (LEMAR/UBO-CNRS-IRD-IFREMER) and the Laboratory of Microbiology of Extreme Environments (LM2E/UBO-CNRS-IFREMER). The diploma responds to a strong demand for excellence in training through fundamental and applied research in the fields of the study of marine ecosystems (route 1), in the biology of marine organisms (route 2), and in the field of management through an ecosystem approach to fisheries resources and aquatic environments (route 3).
The objective is to prepare young doctoral scientists, representing 2/3 of the students, with a specialization in marine biological sciences and the link with environmental issues related to the evolution of the oceans. The training also leads 1/3 of the students to research careers related to the professional fields of marine biology, to which are added for the third course new professional opportunities within the organizations in charge of the upstream part of the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

Marine ecosystems
The holders of this diploma are professionals who can be in charge of:
- carry out studies and supervise projects in the field of the marine environment (alteration, preservation, change)
- contribute to the dissemination of knowledge (reports, studies or surveys), inform and train various audiences (training audiences, political decision-makers, business leaders, etc.) in the field of the marine environment
- carry out diagnoses and provide advice to different types of interlocutors in the field of the marine environment
- ensure communication around a project or on a specific subject
Marine organisms biology
The holders of this diploma are professionals who can be in charge of:
- carry out studies and supervise projects in the field of marine organism biology (management of livestock, management of living resources)
- contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, inform and train various audiences (training audiences, political decision-makers, business leaders,…) in the field of marine organism biology
- ensure communication around a project or on a specific subject
- carry out diagnoses and provide advice to different types of interlocutors in the field of marine organism biology
- design, develop and test innovative methodologies in the context of research themes in marine biology
Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences
This course trains future scientists in the perspective of ecosystem-based management of living resources and marine environments.
They have high-level expertise in their reference scientific fields to conduct diagnoses and act appropriately in complex situations and systems, both scientifically and in terms of the methods to be used and the diversity of interactions to be taken into account.
They are at the level of scientific research but are also able to translate the results into consulting and project support. They implement relevant and innovative techniques in complex environments to act on territories and environments based on context and demand analysis. They conduct experimental work.
International Master of science in marine biological resources (IMBRSea)
The International Master in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea) is a joint Master’s programme organised by ten leading European universities in the field of marine sciences. IMBRSea covers a wide range of topics related to the sustainable use of marine living resources. By focusing on marine biological and ecological processes, the programme links the biology of marine organisms to environmental studies and marine policy and planning topics:
