ODATIS celebrates it’s 10th anniversary at IUEM

From 2 to 4 June 2026, the IUEM hosted the general assembly of ODATIS. This year’s event was a special occasion, as it marked the 10th anniversary of this Ocean Data and Services cluster within the Data Terra research infrastructure! Over the past decade, ODATIS has established itself as a key player in the dissemination, promotion, sharing and management of ocean observation data, bringing together a broad community drawn from major national and international programmes.

In attendance were institutional partners (CNRS, CNES, Ifremer, IRD, Shom, Marine Universities, Cerema), members of the scientific and operational community, data managers, public sector representatives and private partners. A total of 158 people gathered for three days of workshops, plenary sessions and discussions focusing on institutional and scientific issues, looking back at the past and looking ahead to the future. These sessions provided an opportunity to revisit major advances, flagship projects and significant milestones, whilst setting a course towards new horizons to be explored.

The final session on Thursday 4th focused in particular on the social and environmental impact of digital technologies, especially those arising from research, complementing the exhibition on digital sobriety currently on display in the institute’s corridors.

A special evening event was organised at Espace 70.8 ‘A Museum for the Ocean’, at the Ateliers des Capucins, allowing participants to enjoy a convivial immersion and continue discussions throughout the museum tour. There were lively discussions around several observation sensors on display (satellites, Argo floats, tide gauges, etc.), with the oceanographers present acting as guest representatives for the ODATIS 10th anniversary!
