Mes activités de recherche à l’Institut de Recherche pour le Développement ont porté depuis 1988 sur les poissons et les écosystèmes aquatiques tropicaux, en partenariat avec les communautés scientifiques d’Amérique du Sud (1988-1995) et d’Afrique sub-saharienne (depuis 1995). Entre 2000 et 2010, j’ai notamment effectué des travaux scientifiques sur les Aires Marines Protégées en Afrique de l’Ouest, menés en relation avec les parties prenantes et les populations. J’ai également étudié la biodiversité dans l’Atlantique tropical et j’ai participé aux évaluations conduites dans le cadre de l’élaboration de la liste rouge de l’UICN des espèces de poissons de l’Atlantique Est. J’ai été membre du panel d’experts de l’IPBES pour le rapport régional « Afrique » dans lequel j’ai été coordinateur (CLA) du chapitre 1. Au cours de ma carrière, j’ai été responsable de plusieurs projets de recherche, dont le dernier (ANR EPURE, 2012-2016) portait sur la contamination aux métaux lourds chez les espèces marines du nord du courant des Canaries. Depuis juillet 2016, je suis directeur du Laboratoire des Sciences de l’Environnement Marin (LEMAR, UMR de l’UBO, CNRS, IRD et Ifremer) et je reste impliqué dans plusieurs projets de recherche sur l’écologie marine tropicale.
