Mes activités de recherche à l’Institut de Recherche pour le Développement ont porté depuis 1988 sur les poissons et les écosystèmes aquatiques tropicaux, en partenariat avec les communautés scientifiques d’Amérique du Sud (1988-1995) et d’Afrique sub-saharienne (depuis 1995). Entre 2000 et 2010, j’ai notamment effectué des travaux scientifiques sur les Aires Marines Protégées en Afrique de l’Ouest, menés en relation avec les parties prenantes et les populations. J’ai également étudié la biodiversité dans l’Atlantique tropical et j’ai participé aux évaluations conduites dans le cadre de l’élaboration de la liste rouge de l’UICN des espèces de poissons de l’Atlantique Est. J’ai été membre du panel d’experts de l’IPBES pour le rapport régional « Afrique » dans lequel j’ai été coordinateur (CLA) du chapitre 1. Au cours de ma carrière, j’ai été responsable de plusieurs projets de recherche, dont le dernier (ANR EPURE, 2012-2016) portait sur la contamination aux métaux lourds chez les espèces marines du nord du courant des Canaries. J’ai rejoint le Laboratoire des Sciences de l’Environnement Marin (LEMAR, UMR de l’UBO, CNRS, IRD et Ifremer) en septembre 2010 et j’en été le directeur de  juillet 2016 à fin décembre 2021 tout en restant impliqué dans plusieurs projets de recherche sur l’écologie marine tropicale. Depuis le 1er janvier 2022, j’ai quitté le poste de directeur et j’ai repris de nouvelles activités de recherche au sein de l’équipe Discovery. En octobre 2022, j’ai fait valoir mes droits à la retraite et j’ai quitté le laboratoire.

As minhas atividades de investigação no Institut de Recherche pour le Développement têm-se concentrado nos peixes e ecossistemas aquáticos tropicais desde 1988, em parceria com comunidades científicas da América do Sul (1988-1995) e da África Subsaariana (desde 1995). Entre 2000 e 2010, realizei trabalhos científicos sobre Áreas Marinhas Protegidas na África Ocidental, em relação com as entidades e populações envolvidas. Estudei também a biodiversidade no Atlântico tropical e participei nas avaliações realizadas para a elaboração da Lista Vermelha das espécies de peixe no Atlântico Oriental da IUCN. Fui membro do Painel de Especialistas do IPBES para o Relatório Regional de África, no qual fui o Coordenador (CLA) para o Capítulo 1. Durante a minha carreira, fui responsável por vários projetos de investigação, o último dos quais (ANR EPURE, 2012-2016) centrou-se na contaminação por metais pesados de espécies marinhas da Corrente Norte das Canárias. Juntei-me ao Laboratoire des Sciences de l’Environnement Marin (LEMAR, UMR da UBO, CNRS, IRD e Ifremer) em Setembro de 2010 e fui o seu diretor de Julho de 2016 até ao final de Dezembro de 2021, mantendo-me envolvido em vários projetos de investigação sobre ecologia marinha tropical. Desde 1 de Janeiro de 2022, deixei o cargo de diretor e assumi novas atividades de investigação no seio da equipa Discovery. Em Outubro de 2022, reformei-me e deixei o laboratório.
