IUEM New teaching practices
An interdisciplinary teaching unit
The objectives of this unit are to strengthen interdisciplinarity, the link between students of the different specialities, create elements of common culture and of openness to scientific questions and societal issues in Marine and Coastal Sciences. It also aims at confronting scientific key questions and current problems of the different disciplines involved in this field.
Flipped classes
Some Master’s courses use the flipped class method in order to encourage discussions between students, teachers and researchers. This method, which is used in cross-disciplinary courses, consists in posting courses and resources online before of the course via the Moodle platform. Students then have a few weeks to prepare them and to meet in a face-to-face class to ask questions or to discuss less mastered concepts, case studies, etc.
Oceanographic campaigns
The Floating University is a recurring operation that takes students on board of the IPEV‘s Marion Dufresne ship. During each campaign, IUEM has been able to offer this experience to a few SML master students.

E-learning
IUEM is at the initiative of e-learning projects beyond university courses. E-learning makes it possible to learners to study according to their rhythms without time constraints and without having to travel. Training courses open to anybody for the MOOC FlotRisCo or for Moroccan students for the SPOC Riscomar. This model makes it possible learning for everyone, regardless of whether the students are on site or cannot attend classes due to distance or professional activity.
MOOC FlotRisCo
IUEM offers a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on coastal risks open to those wishing to learn more about marine erosion and submersion risks but also in complementarity with your knowledge of coastal management.
SPOC ScolaMAR
Within the framework of Erasmus + ScolaMAR project for which IUEM is coordinator, a teaching unit will be created in the form of SPOC during the first year of the Master’s course.
