MONITOR

  The MONITOR (MicrO-droNe bIodiversiTé sOUS-maRine) project aims to design and test new tools for the analysis and monitoring of benthic habitats and marine biodiversity, through non-destructive practices. These new tools will be available to map the edaphic properties of benthic habitats and part of the biodiversity. The micro-AUVs are developed by the company SEABER in Lorient. They are lightweight and easy to deploy. The objective of the MONITOR project is to combine the deployment and measurements of four underwater micro-AUV, each carrying a specific measuring instrument in order to provide an overview of marine biodiversity, soundscapes, the distribution of pelagic species and the structure of benthic habitats:

• YUCO-ECHO: An echo sounder coupled with automatic classification tools to analyze and characterize fish biomass;
• YUCO-eDNA: A micro filtration system embedded on the AUV to collect environmental DNA in order to identify the species present in the environment.
• YUCO-SCAN: A micro-AUV with Side-Scan sonar and video to characterize the seabed;
• YUCO-PAM: A micro-AUV with acoustic recorders to qualify acoustic activity.
