We are looking for one

Technician in charge of the production of microalgae for feed for marine molluscs in the context of the experiments carried out at the Argenton site

Phytotechnology Technician

Placed within the PFOM unit, under the responsibility of the head of the Laboratory of Invertebrate Physiology (LPI) and in the scientific context of the UMR LEMAR, he/she ensures the production of phytoplankton on the Argenton experimental site, as part of the research activities carried out at the LPI and LEMAR.

Within Ifremer, the Functional Physiology of Marine Organisms (PFOM) unit is part of the LEMAR RMU and focuses its research work on an in-depth knowledge of the major physiological functions (e.g. feeding, growth, reproduction) of exploited marine animals (bivalves, fish), and on the impact of environmental changes on these functions.

The technician's mission is to produce microalgae for feed for marine molluscs in the context of experiments carried out on the Argenton site, the maintenance of the strain library and the transplantation of strains.

He/she is in charge of the management and monitoring of the "phytoplankton" and "seawater" databases and carries out the annual production balances including the qualitative and quantitative balance of the microalgae culture parameters. I/he contributes to the evolution of production techniques (e.g. continuous cultivation, use of phototo-bioreactor) in order to optimize the methods currently used in Argenton.

He/she manages and orders the equipment necessary for the production of microalgae.

* Production of microalgae in cylinders (large volumes), including preparation of culture media and seeding of culture flasks (small volumes)
* Daily quantitative and qualitative monitoring of biotic (number and volume of cells, size and shape by microscopy, samples for chlorophyll a determinations, and/or biochemical composition of algae) and abiotic (pH, temperature, light) parameters of microalgae cultures (at different phases of their production)
* Monitoring of seawater quality (nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, physico-chemical parameters (temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved[O2]) used for the production of microalgae,
* Daily distribution of algae to the experimental rooms
* Management of databases related to phytoplankton production.
