The objective of TOURBZH is to study peatlands and associated oligotrophic ecosystems in the western Armorican Massif by answering the question: Does the current and potential conservation status of peatlands and associated peat ecosystems in the Armorican Massif contribute to addressing current challenges related to global change? This project aims to quantify the conservation status of peatland ecosystems, based on existing methodologies, to characterise the link between conservation status and the functioning of these environments through ecosystem service bundles, and to assess the restoration of ecosystem functions on restored peatland sites. Then, based on these results, the aim will be to establish the link between functioning, management practices and uses of peatland areas by integrating socio-economic aspects and implementing a landscape approach to characterising these environments in order to conciliate all the issues at stake, having first characterised the vulnerability of these environments to climate change and the potential consequences for the ecosystem services they provide to society.
