East border of southern Pacific Ocean is characterized by the presence of a particularly intense coastal upwelling at the base of major fisheries. Nevertheless, remineralization of sedimenting organic matter induces the formation of a pronounced minimum oxygen zone (OMZ). The studies that we performed in this zone tends to indicates that cold, hypoxic, acid and sulfur-rich water from the OMZ might be advected towards coastal bays thus inducing a high variability in the physico-chemical parameters. Bivalve living in the bay, that constitute a subsistence mean for local human populations, are thus impacted by this variability.

The aim of this collaboration project is to characterize the links between this variability and the biological traits of the bivalves inhabiting Peruvian coastal bays through an approach coupling field observation, experimentation and modelling.
