To begin the collection of key information on fish distribution around fernando de Noronha, one of the pilot area of the project, we performed the first Fish acoustic around Fernando de Noronha (FAROFA 1; https://doi.org/10.17600/18001399) survey. Indeed the availability of comprehensive information on fish distribution is capital for marine spatial planning. This survey organised in conjonction between UFPE (coordination by Alex Costa da Silva), UFRPE and IRD was performed from september 11-22 onboard a vessel of opportunity under the leadership of Arnaud Bertrand, Anne Lebourges-Dhaussy and Paulo Travassos. During this pilot survey a combinaison of acoustic and video recording was used to allow for a better identification of organisms observed by acoustics. In the light of the success of this campaign, we have decided to organise two others, in 2018 and 2019, but at a different time (April) so that the sea conditions will be more favourable. This activity contributed directly to the tasks 2.2 and 2.3.
