The first workshop of the Paddle project was held in Mindelo, Cabo Verde, between 5-7 February 2018 and gathered 50 persons.
The main topic was the question of diversity and intensity of marine uses and the place of local communities and knowledge for these uses.
The workshop gathered researchers and representatives from Cabo Verde but also from several african portuguese-speaking countries, members of Paddle project, a representative of the International Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and a colleague from the Santa Barbara University (USA). During these 3 days, the participants could attend to presentations on Marine Spatial Planning, and, with the help of a simulation tool, Seasketch, take into account the importance of the role and knowledge of local communities.
This workshop co-organised by the IRD, the University of Azores, in link with the INDP, the Abidljan Convention and the IOC-UNESCO is one of the deliverables of the Paddle project, funded by the European Union.
