During this secondment in the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (Dakar), done within the framework of the PADDLE project, and more specifically of its WP 3 and WP4, I performed the following objectives:

  • field observations (about 12 days): notably in Dakar fishing ports (Soumbédioune, Ngor, Yoff, Hann…), along the Petite Côte area (Toubab Dialo, N’dayane, Popenguine, Somone, M’bour, Joal) and the Grande Côte area (Saint-Louis, Kayar);
  • bibliographic searches and readings (about 8 days) on fisheries’ issues as well as more generally on coastal and maritime activities and stakes in Senegal;
  • exchanging with Senegalese colleagues (Université Cheikh Anta Diop Dakar, Université Gaston Berger Saint-Louis…) with the objective to impulse joint collaborations (about 4 days);
  • drafting a paper in collaboration with geographers’ colleagues of the Université Cheikh Anta Dio (about 2 days) for the PADDLE handbook on tropical MSP;
  • working on a double degree project at the master level in the field of geography and coastal and maritime development, between Nantes and Dakar (about 1 day);
  • logistic and organisation: planning the meetings, planning the field work etc. (about 3 days).
