Biography

Professor Ibrahima Ly is an Associate in Public Law and Political Science and Director of the Laboratory for Studies and Research in Policies, Law of the Environment and Health (LERPDES) at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal (UCAD). He has been a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and the African Environmental Lawyers Network for several years. From 1999 to 2007 Professor Ly was the Head of the Department of Public Law and Political Science at the Faculty of Law of Cheikh Anta Diop University. From 2007 to 2010, he was Director of CREDILA (Center for Research, Studies and Documentation on African Institutions and Legislation). Since 2010, he is the Director of LERPDES. Professor Ly is also a member of the Committee of Experts of the Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Authority of Senegal since 2011. He is also a member of the National Biosafety Committee of Senegal, a member of the Board of Directors of CIDCE (International Center for Comparative Environmental Law), and since July 2015, associate member of the International Academy of Comparative Law. He teaches environmental and health law at UCAD and in many other African universities. He is the author of a number of publications and co-author of a collective work on the law of the marine and coastal environment in Senegal published in 2016 by the IRD. Finally, he participates with his LERPDES research team in the PADDLE Project in partnership with the IRD team in Brest.
