Biography

José Guerreiro was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1958.

He graduated in Biology and has a PhD in Ecology at the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon University, where he is Professor. His area of research is Environmental and Marine Governance.

Since 1991 he participates and/or coordinates EU research projects in Southern and East Africa (Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, and Angola). Also developed a public career as Secretary of State for the Environment, General Director for the Environment, President of the Institute for Environmental Promotion and Dean of the Portuguese Biologists Bar. He is at the present a member of the National Council for Environment and Sustainable Development. His main contribution to the PADDLE project will be on comparative analysis and prospects of policies, Institutional and legal frameworks for MSP and Marine Governance.
