Biography

Helena Calado holds a Degree in Geography and Regional Planning from New University of Lisbon in Portugal and a PhD in Land Use Planning and Management from University of the Azores in Portugal. She is currently a researcher at the MARE- Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre and Full Professor at the Biology Department of University of the Azores where she teaches Geography, Spatial Planning, Legislation and Environmental Management. With over 15 years of experiences in land use planning and environmental impact assessments, she is currently focusing her research on coastal zone management plans, coastal hazards and mitigation measures, climate change impacts and implications, marine protected areas, and maritime spatial planning for small islands, particularly for the Azores.

In the framework of the Paddle project, Helena is the leader of the "challenges and solutions" workpackage.
