The objective is to train experts in the law concerning the sea, coastal areas, fisheries, marine environment law and commercial maritime activities.

In the world of work, holders of this diploma will be responsible for identifying, analyzing and addressing legal issues related to the various fields of maritime activities and the Law of the Sea, by preparing and following contentious cases, and by defining, designing and writing documents, legal acts and useful regulations.

Graduates in Maritime Law will be able to advise different actors in the maritime sector (e.g. shipping companies, agencies, forwarding agents, NVOCC, insurers, tugboat pilots and cargo handlers) in the implementation of their administrative and commercial responsibilities; to negotiate and draw up contracts and agreements; and to manage disputes arising from these activities. The graduate will typically advise these actors on the use of legal instruments specific to the occupation and exploitation of the public domain, on the planning rules for construction in coastal areas, and on the instruments relating to authorization, management and use of resources schemes. He or she will help to reduce the risks of environmental damage and, if necessary, deal with the legal consequences of such impacts.

In the field of International Law of the Sea, the graduate will interpret and assess the impact of international acts relating to the implementation of this specific law, to environmental protection, maritime and port security. He/she will advise operators on State responsibility and jurisdiction at sea, on the procedures related to offense investigation and prosecution and the associated legal risks.
